I hear what you're saying but it's certainly not a 'make or break' aspect of our lives.

We're all individuals and I do see both sides of the argument; that is things that may be painful or objectionable to some may be pleasurable or trivial/ inconsequential to others.

As the old adage goes, 'one person's pain is another person's pleasure' (and vice versa).
