    Unhappy Back again, after concussion

    Hello everyone,

Very sad and anxious to say that I'm back after what I thought was a complete recovery.

After a head trauma (heavy object hit back of head) I'm now suffering major anxiety symptoms, but seem to be overcoming the concussion symptons (bar for some weird lingering issues). Essentially i'm getting very little sleep, and my body will not shut down to sleep. I had my first 'full' panick during the night about a week ago, and my system now refuses to go to into rest mode. I've gone nights laying in bed ruminating: Is it the head injury that's preventing sleep or is it a massive case of the anxiety that has returned in a new form (sleep anxiety)?

    I worry that:

    • When it comes to brain injury, some issues never recover in some.
    • Has the whiplash knocked my pituatary and my hormones are all over, causing all this
    • I've got permanent nerve damage in my neck
    • How long can I go on with little to no sleep?
    • I'm off work sick, and I have a family of 4 to look after

Prescribed citalopram, and propanolol. But have yet to start on the cit, as I know what the start is like. :(

I hope you are all ok in your own recoveries. I'll be on and off here like I was before, it was a massive help last time.

Recovery is not linear so don't be defeated.

Anything else going on that's making it harder to cope at moment?

You don't say you have been diagnosed with a brain injury? If not then question 1 is moot.

Question 2 is definite anxiety mental gymnastics. Anxious me can see I would prob have such thoughts. Rational me says it's not a thing.

Q3. Same as question 2 but not all nerve damage is catastrophic anyway

Q4 You will sleep in end. You won't be able to stay awake.

Q5 Be kind to yourself. Ask for their help. Cut down on the extras. You're poorly (with anxiety) it's ok to take some time.

Thank you for your kind words. I think the sleep thing is the worst thing i've ever dealt with on top of anxiety/depression.

It's like as my body/mind drifts off there's a jolt, heart palps, and I'm filled anxiety.

I went to see the GP today and he presribed me Zopiclone. I wanted my body to just give in, but 4 days of zero sleep and I'm almost done in.

Anyone else experienced this. I think it started with a bad panic attack during sleep and now my mind just refuses....

Sorry to hear you are still sufferring with sleep issues. Am wondering if you are sleeping a bit? Just not well? The association of sleep to panic seems to play a part but try to remember it didn't cause it. It was a random moment.

Maybe some relaxation exercises but also maybe not trying too hard? Go to bed accepting you aren't going to sleep but try to do some deep relaxation?
