That’s true actually Fishman, I never thought of that. That would have been worse. Watching it die in my hand.

Yes it was a dirty, fouling Everton cheat that clattered me. Ruined my chances for playing womens football and you know how much I wanted it.

Yesterday I was in the process of putting green waste into one of the compost bins. Something caught my eye and I saw a large adult frog crawling into one of the frog dens I made.

It was pleasing to see the facilities being used.

A Robin's nest from last spring, removed from the nest box in readiness for a new one next spring.

    Nice, fishman!

I got into battle with a robin last spring - she had a baby that I think was just about to leave the nest and while the poor kid was on the ground and trying to figure out how to fly, my dog caught sight of him and tried to grab him; it was early and still pretty dark so I could barely see. Mama robin did not like that and chased both of us into the house (baby was fine, thankfully). I wonder if she'll nest on my house again this year.

Nice to see this thread resurrected Fishman.

I have nest boxes up and despite placing them in suitable positions I have never had babies. Back at my old house we had a nest in the clematis. Unfortunately my awful dogs got wind of it and sat waiting underneath for the first flights. They could have shown a cat a trick or two. I’m can’t remember what bird it was…too many years have passed. Maybe a blackbird?

I’ve put my bird feeders up. The first time since I took them down in spring. Within half an hour I had blue tits, long tailed tits and of course a robin. It was almost as if they were waiting.

Lovely posts on here guys. It sounds like you had a close run in with that Robin Poppy.

Could that have been a Robin by any chance Carnation?

Darksky, did you have the nest boxes facing north-east? That's the desired direction as facing it anywhere between south and west will cause the box to overheat.
