Hi,

After a long 8 weeks waiting for results, I finally found out today that the reason I was ill a couple of months ago was because I had Lyme disease. I had suspected this and was put on antibiotics 8 weeks ago but only just got the result today. Im a bit worried that it maybe wasnt treated in time, or the strength of treatment wasnt enough. Further Lyme disease problems can crop up in months or even years after the infection if it hasnt been completely cleared and Im just a bit worried this is going to happen. Especially because the doctors failed to diagnose me, I had been told I had dry skin and ringworm....it was actually me that carried out the research and demanded testing for Lymes. That's why I am a bit sceptical of the doctors advice now. If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Firstly,I'm so sorry of you basically sounding like you were doing the docs job! But it's goo dyou're getting treatment. I can totally see why you have lack of trust with the doctors now but now that they know this is what you havve they will keep an eye on you and make sure you get the right treatment etc. I'm sorry it took so long though love xxx

Hey thanks for your reply, :)
I actually had the treatment 8 weeks ago when I went to the docs, its procedure to just give antibiotic treatment if its suspected while waiting for results. I just kinda worry that it might not go away. He told me if I ever get a fever or feeling of fatigue to go back to them but otherwise Ive to do nothing. Would quite like another Lyme test to see if its gone, but I think theyre expensive and troublesome to do so they prob wont do another one unless I develop symptoms. I am tempted to ask though

i think you caught it very early, most people go for months and months - even years before they realise they have lyme.

Did you have the western blot test? atleast you know now what it was and dont forget the earlier you treat lyme the greater the chance of it never returning, thats what i've read anyway :)

I'm so glad that you finally got a proper diagnoses. Now that they know what you have you'll get good care.

Hey!

Well the doc said the result was mildly positive, and he seemed to think that that meant I may have had it for quite a while....but the rash is supposed to appear 1-30 days after being bitten. I noticed the rash at the start of October and got treatment mid November. So going by that I could have had it from anything from 6-10 weeks before starting treatment. But everything Ive read on the internet says that the longer you have Lymes the stronger the result will be...not weaker. So its a slight conflict of opinion. I managed to find a book on it and got this info from a specific Lyme disease site and the NHS website. I guess maybe the doc doesnt know much about it, which he admitted when I went in and asked for it. To be fair docs in Glasgow prob dont see it very often. I think I was a first for my doc. So going by the other sources maybe I didnt have it for too long. Heres hoping anyways :) Im not sure what testing they did Gaz. I assume they did a Western Blot because if the first test is positive then theyll to the WB test. Which they must have...i think. I should have asked but was so shocked I actually had it I forgot to ask lol. I thought all along that that's what it was, but I never thought the test would say positive.

ok, thanks for the update, i asked because the usual lyme test is useless most of the time and the WB test is always needed, the fact that it was mild seems to point to you not having lyme for very long, if possibly at all? But either way you've had medication so i reckon you'll be ok now and try not to dwell on it, put it behind you and move on :D

Yeah thats what Im hoping. The only reason Im kinda concerned is I was only put on 100mg dioxicycline a day and it says everywhere im reading that it should be 200-300mg per day. Have considered asking to see a Lyme specialist to discuss it with someone who has more experience. Thanks for the support :)
