For the last 10 weeks I have had a sore throat which has not improved despite taking a number of over the counter remedies. Yesterday I noticed that my legs had a number of tiny bruises under the skin. Naturally this scared me and my anxiety went into overdrive. This morning I saw my gp who took blood samples and has referred me to a ENT specialist for suspected throat cancer. I知 really worried as I知 a non smoking, teetotaller ( female in 60s). I知 now waiting with trepidation for the results of the blood tests. Can anyone identify with these symptoms and help me to calm down? I do have history of health anxiety but it has improved significantly in the last few years, until this episode. Many thanks L

Yesterday morning I had a full range of blood tests at the doctors and the majority of them were reported on yesterday evening by my gp. However the FBC results are still outstanding. I know it’s only 24 hours but I’m getting really anxious waiting for them. Does anyone know if the hospital would flag these up as urgent if anything suspicious was noted or would they wait for the gp to read them? Thanks in advance

That's great news! Did you already see the ENT then?

Saw the ENT today and had a scope put down my throat. The dr couldn’t see anything suspicious but has arranged an MRI for tomorrow just to be on the safe side. I had really hoped I could have had a definite answer but will have to wait. He says he feels the issue is being caused by acid reflux. Hopefully that will be the cause

Hi, sorry, I had meant to respond to your earlier post but neglected to do so.

It sounds like that's really good news. Acid reflux can definitely cause a persistent sore throat, and thankfully is a reasonably simple problem to solve. It's unfortunate that you have to do another test, but at least you'll absolutely know everything is fine after the MRI and your anxiety can hopefully settle down a bit after that.

Thanks Poppy I appreciate your reply. I just hate having any tests particularly an mri. I always look for worse case scenario. This health anxiety is so

Well just had the MRI this morning. Now the waiting begins…if anything abnormal was seen on the screen would they contact you straight away or would you have to wait for the normal reporting time? Thanks

I'm not sure how things work over there, but generally if something is serious they get back to you ASAP.

Well done for braving the MRI, hopefully they get back to you with the all clear sooner rather than later.
