Currently on edge and I find it hard to sleep because I feel that I have less control over what is bothering me (not insomnia i just don't want to go to sleep at that point) I just wondered how other people cope when they think they have things wrong with them when the problem is acute and could be sudden.

Thanks in advance

When my thoughts go way out of control like that I personally choose distraction. There are times I won't even want to even try and sleep because I know what's waiting for me as soon as my head touches the pillow.

Don't go for distraction that will stimulate you too much though because you do want to sleep eventually, so I'd stay away from video games, phone apps, computers etc and opt for more easy going distractions such as reading, movies, tv shows and radio/music. It's good to be able to lie in bed with your eyes closed, yet have something to listen to so your brain is occupied away from negative and scary thoughts.
