hi i got to have camera down my throat in a few weeks and im scared of having the sedation, i have a throat anxiety and also im scared i will feel everything and not being able to do anything about it, i dont like the idea of not being in control ive heard people saying that they were out of it, so to speak, and dont remember anything, does that mean i will still be aware of whats going on but will be drowsy  or nearly asleep

Hi Susan,

During your procedure you'll be accompanied by an anesthesiologist. They have spent years upon years studying for accredition in making patients such as yourself as comfortable as possible during an operation. They are medical doctors who have chosen to specialise further into monitoring your state. In other words, you'll be as comfortable as anything as these people have got so much training and practice under their belts. As someone who has been anaesthetised before, you seriously have nothing to worry about. Before you know it, you'll be awake, maybe a little tired, but you won't be put under any discomfort during the op.

Best of luck :)

I have had this done twice (gastroscopy), and both times it felt like I was out of it completely. Asleep. Didn't wake up until it was over. Felt fine. A bit gassy, needed to take it easy for the rest of the day, but that's it. My throat wasn't sore. I was thirsty, and took a big covered cup with straw to bed with me and snoozed comfortably off and on. You may prefer the sofa and tv. You will need to have someone drive you home afterwards, they can help you get settled.
You will be fine, good luck!
